4/21/2016 12:00:00 AM | Softball
PHILADELPHIA - Alexis Walkden (Cibolo, Texas) homered for the second-straight game for the Seton Hall softball team in a 5-4 extra-innings setback at Drexel (17-26) on Thursday afternoon at the Drexel Softball Field. The contest marked the penultimate midweek contest of the season for the Pirates (21-24) and their sixth extra-inning affair of the year.
The Pirates trailed 4-1 heading to the seventh inning but rallied for three in the frame to tie the contest. Faith Laudano (Islip, N.Y.) led off the inning with a pinch-hit double and moved to third before stealing home to cut the deficit to two. Later in the frame, Walkden crushed a two-run homer to level the contest at 4-4. The contest eventually went to extras, where Drexel came away with a walk-off victory in the bottom of the eighth.
Turning Point
The Pirates rallied to tie the contest in the top of the seventh before setting Drexel down in the bottom of the frame to force extras. In the bottom of the eighth, the Dragons put two on with two away before an infield single and error allowed the winning run to come home from second in a walk-off 5-4 victory.
