SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – The Seton Hall baseball team hit four home runs to fuel a 10-5 victory over San Diego State in the finale of the Tony Gwynn Classic on Saturday.
Â
Coming off a 1-0 loss to Oregon early in the day, the Pirate offense broke out of its slumber in the first inning vs. the Aztecs. With one out, Al Molina (Freehold, N.J.) and Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.) hit back-to-back doubles to give The Hall a 1-0 lead, just three batters into the game. Senior Mikael-Ali Mogues (New York, N.Y.) followed with a towering home run to right field to extend the Pirates' advantage to 3-0. Senior Mike Caputo (Morganville, N.J.) made it four straight hits for Seton Hall with a single through the left side. With two outs, Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) walked, and freshman Connor Hood (Shrewsbury, Pa.) doubled to left-center field to drive in two more runs and give the Pirates a 5-0 lead.
Â
In the top of the second inning, the Pirates tacked on three more runs thanks to the long ball to take an 8-0 advantage. Molina led off with a solo home run to centerfield. With two outs, after Poduslenko singled, junior Mike Alescio (Fair Haven, N.J.) crushed his first career home run to drive in two additional runs.
