3/25/2017 4:52:00 PM | Men's Golf
GRASONVILLE, MD. – Senior Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines) and sophomore Gen Nagai (Mandaue Cebu City, Philippines) each shot a 2-over-par, 74, on Saturday, to lead the Seton Hall men's golf team to a seventh place tie after round one of the 2017 Towson Spring Invitational.
Go was 1-under-par on the front nine, but 3-over-par on the back. Nagai used three birdies to pace his round. Both Pirates are currently tied for 24th place among 120 individual golfers with 18 holes left to play. They trail the individual leader, Elon's Jared Mactas, by seven strokes.
Collectively, the Pirates shot a 13-over-par, 301, in the first round. They're tied with three other teams for seventh place, Bryant, Columbia and LaSalle. Local rival Fairleigh Dickinson is the team leader at 1-under-par. No other BIG EAST teams are a part of the 21-school field.
Freshman Alex Chalk (Castle Douglas, Scotland) shot a 4-over-par, 76, in round one. He's tied for 40th place overall. Only one stroke behind Chalk is teammate Chris Yeom (Flushing, N.Y.), who logged a 5-over-par, 77.
Freshman Alex McAuley (Douglas, Isle of Man) rounded out the Pirates' team scoring on Saturday with a 7-over-par, 79.
Junior Linus Yip (Sydney, Australia), playing as an individual, shot a 9-over-par, 81.
Tournament Details:
TOWSON SPRING INVITATIONAL
Host: Towson University
Location: Grasonville, Md.
Course: Prospect Bay Country Club
Course Vitals: Par-72, 6,530 yards
Dates: March 24-25, 2017
The Course:
Prospect Bay Country Club, long known for excellent greens, has two distinct nines. The front is open and more affected by breezes off Eastern Bay. It is highlighted by the 4th hole, a 556 yard par five, which features a large two-tiered green and the 6th, a 400 yard par four, sporting out-of-bounds right and water on the left. The back nine is tree-lined, winding along the perimeter of Talisman Farm. The course is known for its strong finishing holes, considered by some to be as good as anything on the Eastern Shore. The 17th, a 428 yard par four, plays into the prevailing wind and demands an accurate tee shot in order to have a chance at par. It's followed up by our signature hole, the 590 yard par five 18th. The large, almost "island" green, is well-protected by four bunkers and water front and right. A par on the 18th is always a great way to finish the round.
The Field:
In addition to Seton Hall and host Towson, the large field includes 20 other schools: Bethune-Cookman, Bryant, Columbia, Cornell, Elon, Fairfield, Fairleigh Dickinson, Indiana (Pa.), Lafayette, La Salle, Long Island University, Penn, Robert Morris, Sacred Heart, Saint Anselm, Stevenson, Trinity College, Maryland Eastern Shore and William & Mary.
