NEW YORK – Seton Hall junior Ricky DeVito (Staten Island, N.Y.) was named to the 2019 Preseason All-America Second Team by Collegiate Baseball on Monday.
DeVito is coming off one of the finest baseball seasons in recent memory for a Seton Hall pitcher. The tall right-hander was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year and to the All-America Second Team in 2018. In BIG EAST-only games, he led the conference in ERA (0.75) and wins (four), while ranking second in opposing batting average (.176), third in strikeouts (40) and fourth in innings pitched. DeVito was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll five times last year, and BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week once. On April 21, he scattered just four hits over a career-high eight scoreless innings with eight strikeouts at Butler.
DeVito was one of only two BIG EAST players listed among Collegiate Baseball's three All-America teams. St. John's Sean Mooney joined DeVito on the Second Team.
DeVito and the Pirates will open the 2019 season on Friday, February 15 when they begin a three-game series against Ohio State in Port Charlotte, Fla.
