SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Freshman Casey Dana (Montgomery, N.Y.) hit his first career home run, but the Seton Hall baseball team fell at Wofford, 12-5, in the first game of Friday's split-opponent doubleheader.
The Pirates were able to club a season-high 11 hits, but most of them came late in the ballgame once Wofford had already established a significant advantage.
Wofford struck first in the game with a first-inning run off Seton Hall starter Andrew Politi (Long Valley, N.J.). The Pirates however, struck for single runs in the next two innings to take a 2-1 lead. A two-out RBI single by Rob Dadona (Staten Island, N.Y.) tied the game at one in the top of the second, while Christian Del Castillo (Miami, Fla.) scored on a wild pitch in the top of the third inning to give The Hall the lead.
Turning Point:
Trailing 2-1, Wofford's offense broke out in the bottom of the fifth. The Terriers sent 11 men to the plate and scored five runs off a trio of Pirate pitchers. Three of the Wofford runs were scored with two outs as they used five hits, a walk and two hit batsmen to build a 6-2 lead.
Two innings later, Wofford erupted for a six-run seventh inning to put them in front, 12-2.
