STILLWATER, OKLA. – Sophomore Connor Hood (Shrewsbury, Pa.) belted a two-run home run, and Billy Layne, Jr. (Cliffwood Beach, N.J.) tossed four strong innings as the Seton Hall baseball team tied Oklahoma State, 3-3, on Sunday.
The game was halted with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning due to lightning, rain and Seton Hall's pending travel curfew. It's the Pirates' first tie since the 2010 season.
Seton Hall got on the scoreboard first in the top of the second inning. With two outs, sophomore Tyler Shedler-McAvoy (Allendale, N.J.) singled to center field. Hood followed with a two-run home run over the left field fence, the first of his career.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Oklahoma State's Colin Simpson led off with a solo home run to cut the Pirates' lead in half, 2-1. It was the first hit allowed by Layne, Jr. in the game up to that point. Later in that inning, Layne, Jr. was able to get out of a jam with Cowboy runners on second and third with only one out by getting a ground out to short and a strikeout to strand two in scoring position.
Oklahoma State grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with reliever Noah Thompson (Frisco, Texas) on the mound for The Hall. With two outs and two on, Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) misplayed a ball in right field, which allowed both runners to score, and gave the Cowboys a 3-2 advantage.
In the top of the seventh inning, Al Molina (Freehold, N.J.) singled home Hood with two outs to tie the game at three.
