
Leon, Ramiz Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Seton Hall seniors Matt Leon (Bethlehem, Pa.) and Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) were named to the BIG EAST Baseball Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.
Leon had a fantastic week, making three relief appearances in four games. He tossed a perfect inning at Princeton on Wednesday with one strikeout. In the opening game of the series against Xavier, Leon pitched a one-two-three ninth inning to preserve a 4-3 Pirate victory and earn his fourth save of the season. In game two of Saturday's doubleheader, Leon entered in a two-run game in the seventh inning, and pitched the final three innings without issuing an earned run. He scattered just two hits, struck out three batters without a walk, and picked up save No. 5.
Ramiz led the Pirates last week with a .571 batting average. Ramiz hit safely in all four games and recorded a team-best seven RBIs. On Wednesday at Princeton, he had a double and three RBIs. On Friday against Xavier, Ramiz reached base four times, going 2-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and two stolen bases. He drove in two more runs in game one of Saturday's doubleheader, and finished his week by going 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a double in the series finale.
St. John's Josh Shaw was named BIG EAST Player of the Week, while St. John's Sean Mooney earned Pitcher of the Week recognition. Those joining Leon and Ramiz on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll include: Butler's Michael Hartnagel, Creighton's Jack Strunc and Georgetown's Jake Bernstein.
Leon, Ramiz and the rest of the Pirates will return to action on Wednesday, April 18 when they host local rival Monmouth at Owen T. Carroll Field. First pitch scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
