INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Sophomore Ricky DeVito (Staten Island, N.Y.) tossed eight shutout innings and senior Rob Dadona (Staten Island, N.Y.) had four hits as the Seton Hall baseball team blanked Butler, 3-0, on Saturday.
DeVito was brilliant on the mound, scattering just four hits over a career-high eight innings, striking out a career-high eight batters and walking only one to improve to 2-1 on the season. DeVito's eight innings is the longest outing of any Pirate so far this season.
Dadona went 4-for-5 with a two-run home run, his third of the season.
The Pirates got all of the offense they'd need with a single run in the top of the third inning. Connor Hood (Shrewsbury, Pa.) led off and reached on an error by the Butler shortstop. Dadona followed with a single through the rights side, and both moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Sebastiano Santorelli (Tuckahoe, N.Y.). Senior Al Molina (Freehold, N.J.) then delivered a sacrifice fly to plate Hood with the first run of the game.
In the top of the fifth, the Pirate added some insurance runs. After Christian Del Castillo (Miami, Fla.) singled through the right side, Dadona hit a two-run home run over the left field fence to put Seton Hall on top, 3-0.
Inside the Numbers:
Seton Hall will return to action tomorrow when it concludes its three-game series at Butler. First pitch is scheduled for Noon.
