Pitching Strong Again, But Pirates Edged in Game 1

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Sophomore Ricky DeVito (Staten Island, N.Y.) allowed only one unearned run in 5.2 innings, but the Seton Hall baseball team fell to No. 17 St. John's, 2-1, in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday.
DeVito took the hard-luck loss after pitching 5.2 innings without allowing an earned run. He struck out six batters and walked only two.
St. John's John Valente led off the game with a triple into the right field corner, and two batters later, scored on a double play grounder. The Red Storm maintained that 1-0 lead until the ninth inning, when they picked up an insurance run on a two out single.
The Pirates were able to scratch across a run in the bottom of the ninth, but ultimately fell one run short. Senior Al Molina (Freehold, N.J.) tripled to left-center field with one out, and scored on a wild pitch.
