OMAHA, NEB. – Senior Shane McCarthy (Fair Haven, N.J.) allowed only three runs over 6.2 strong innings, but the Seton Hall baseball team fell to Creighton, 4-2, on Friday.

McCarthy allowed three runs over 6.2 innings with six strikeouts and no walks, while taking the hard-luck loss.

Creighton got two runs off McCarthy over the first three innings to take an early 2-0 advantage. But the Pirates were able to cut the lead in half on Tyler Shedler-McAvoy's (Allendale, N.J.) RBI fielder's choice in the top the fourth inning.

After the Bluejays increased their lead to 3-1, the Pirates loaded the bases with just one out in the top of the seventh inning. Junior Sebastiano Santorelli (Tuckahoe, N.Y.) cut the Creighton lead to 3-2 with a sacrifice fly, but the Pirates weren't able to tie the score.

McCarthy took the loss, allowing three runs over 6.2 innings with six strikeouts and no walks.
Senior Mike Alescio (Fair Haven, N.J.) went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
Andrew Politi (Long Valley, N.J.) tossed 1.1 scoreless innings of relief.
Seton Hall had six hits, while Creighton had 11. Neither team committed an error.
Both teams left seven men on base.
Creighton's Ryan Tapani picked up the victory. He allowed only two runs over 6.1 innings.

News & Notes:

The loss drops Seton Hall to 21-16-1 overall and 8-2 in BIG EAST play, while Creighton improves to 26-13 overall and 5-7 in conference.
Seton Hall is now 4-14 all-time against the Bluejays.
McCarthy made his 47^th career start today, which ranks third-most all-time at Seton Hall. Only Jon Prosinski (57) and Joe DiRocco (49) have started more games in a Pirate uniform.
