
202 Pirates Net Academic All-BIG EAST Recognition

NEW YORK, N.Y. - A total of 202 Seton Hall student-athletes have been named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team for the 2017-18 season, the league announced on Tuesday (Aug. 7). The number features multiple members from all 14 varsity sports and in total encompasses 81 percent of all Seton Hall student-athletes.
Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the BIG EAST's 10 member and nine affiliate institutions. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in a BIG EAST-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.

The nominations are reviewed and approved by the BIG EAST Academic Affairs Committee. There are 2,485 honorees for the 2017-18 academic year, the second-highest total in the five years since realignment.
For the seventh-straight year Seton Hall student-athletes broke a record for cumulative GPA, closing the 2017-18 academic year with a 3.405 cumulative GPA. Women's Golf recently earned the 2017-18 BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Award for earning the highest team GPA among all teams in the BIG EAST. Additionally, three student-athletes won BIG EAST Sport Excellence Awards for academic and athletic success; Rob Dadona (baseball), Alexis Walkden (softball) and Noah Yanchulis (men's swimming).
Two student-athletes, Dadona and Walkden earned CoSIDA First Team Academic All-District II honors this season. Six programs, baseball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf, and women's swimming & diving all received NCAA recognition for ranking in the top 10 percent of the nation for Academic Progress Rating (APR). Amongst the outgoing senior class, 42 student-athletes earned the academic merit award and graduated with at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA.
