Pirates Dazzle in 2018-19 Opener at Navy Invitational

Annapolis, Md. – Senior Anicka Fajnorova (Bratislava, Slovakia) won the "A" Flight Singles Championship as the Seton Hall women's tennis team put on a stellar display at the 10th Annual Bill and Sandra Moore Invitational hosted by the US Naval Academy Sept. 14-16.
The Pirates kicked off their 2018-19 campaign in impressive fashion, as both Fajnorova and junior Melody Taal (Ede, Netherlands) wound up meeting each other in the championship of the top singles flight, where Fajnorova emerged victorious with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph.
In the "B" singles flight, junior Michal Matson (St. Albans, New Zealand) won three matches, and freshman Regina Pitts (Los Angeles, Calif.) reached the semifinal after winning a pair of matches.
Senior Thandy Kangwa (Ft. Myers, Fla.) won a pair of matches in the "C" singles flight, while junior Anniek Jansen (Naarden, Netherlands) defeated Carolin Menzen of Fairleigh Dickinson in the "D" flight, 6-4, 6-0.
In doubles play, Taal and Matson advanced to the "B" semifinal with wins over Navy and Howard.
Looking ahead, the Pirates will compete at the ITA Regionals Oct. 11-14 in Skillman, N.J.
