Seton Hall baseball alum and CEO Ray Navarrette will be the guest speaker
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall baseball program and Pirate Blue have announced that the 2020 First Pitch Dinner will take place on campus in Bethany Hall on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020 at 6 p.m.
The guest speaker for the evening will be Digmi and TipYourCap.com CEO Ray Navarrette, a former Seton Hall baseball student-athlete who signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2000 and played professionally for 14 years.
"The First Pitch Dinner is an event that we, as a program, look forward to every year," said head coach Rob Sheppard, who enters his 17th season leading the Pirates. "It's an evening where we can bring our alumni, supporters and our current team and their families together to celebrate the start of a new season. Having a former player like Ray Navarrette – an exemplary individual and the perfect example of the kind of people we want in this program – to come back to speak about his experiences will make this year's dinner really special."
When his playing career ended, Navarrette returned to Seton Hall and completed his degree in communications in May 2016. From there, Navarrette focused all of his efforts into becoming the CEO and chief creative officer at Digmi, his lifestyle fashion brand which has appeared on the shelves at Bloomingdales, Tillys and Lids. His work at Digmi has helped him in his offshoot venture, TipYourCap.com, a blog dedicated to highlighting athletes' stories and accomplishments.
The Pirates return multiple key pieces this season from a team that competed at the BIG EAST Tournament for the ninth-consecutive season in 2019. After a year of playing away from campus, the Hall will also return to a newly renovated Mike Sheppard, Sr., Stadium at Owen T. Carroll Field in 2020.
The cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m. with a cash bar, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. For more information and to register, please visit www.shu.edu/firstpitch or call 973-275-6445.
