Pirates Rally, But Fall at FDU in 10 Innings

Among those who sparkled in relief for The Hall was junior left-hander Blake Espinal (Bronx, N.Y.), who tossed 4.1 scoreless innings, scattering just three hits, and striking out four.
Freshman Nick Payero (Monroe, N.J.) tossed a scoreless seventh inning, before handing the ball to sophomore Ryan McLinskey (Pearl River, N.Y.). The right-hander was brilliant until a walk and a game-winning single felled him in the 10th inning.
Offensively, Casey Dana (Montgomery, N.Y.), Alex Clyde (Old Tappan, N.J.) and Matt Toke (Three Bridges, N.J.) all reached base three times for Seton Hall. Dana was 1-for-2 with two RBIs, two walks and a sacrifice fly, while Clyde was 1-for-2 with a triple, two RBIs, a walk, a hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice bunt. Toke walked three times and scored a run.
What Happened:
Junior Noah Thompson (Frisco, Texas) had a career-best outing in his first start of the season against Ohio State last week, but ran into trouble immediately today. The right-hander allowed a single and an RBI triple to the first two batters he faced, and right away the Pirates were down, 1-0.
In the bottom of the second inning, Thompson easily retired the first two batters, before the Knights struck for four runs on four hits and two walks to extend their lead to 5-0.
The Hall got its offense going in the top of the fifth inning. Senior Sebastiano Santorelli (Tuckahoe, N.Y.) reached on a two-base fielding error and took third on a wild pitch. Dana followed with a sacrifice fly to plate the Pirates' first run. Toke and Connor Hood (Shrewsbury, Pa.) drew back-to-back walks with one out, and Clyde followed with a two-RBI triple to the gap in left-center field to cut the Knights' lead to 5-3.
Seton Hall got closer in the sixth inning after Santorelli's two-out double and Dana's subsequent RBI single. In the seventh inning, Hood scored the tying run on an infield grounder that unfortunately also resulted in the second and third outs of the inning.
