NEW YORK, N.Y. – Seton Hall junior Christian Del Castillo (Miami, Fla.) was named BIG EAST Player of the Week and teammate Ricky DeVito (Staten Island, N.Y.) was added to the Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.
Del Castillo had one of the best weeks in recent memory for a Seton Hall Pirate. The outfielder batted a team-best .600 with a 1.133 slugging percentage in three Seton Hall victories last week. On Tuesday at Wagner, Del Castillo reached base three times, going 2-for-5 with a walk, an RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases. On Friday, he drove in a career-high five RBIs against Wagner, going 3-for-5 with a home run and two doubles. Del Castillo's strong week was capped on Saturday with a 4-for-5 performance at Monmouth. He homered for a second straight day, drove in three more runs and scored twice. Del Castillo drove in nine runs and scored six in only three games.
DeVito was dominant in his start last week against Wagner. The Pirate's ace tossed seven scoreless innings, and scattered just three hits to earn his first victory of the season. DeVito walked three and struck out three, while lowering his season earned run average to 1.12. Teams are now hitting just .193 against him this season.
Butler's Connor Schultz was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week. Those joining DeVito on the Honor Roll include: Butler's Harrison Freed, Creighton's Jake Holton, St. John's Mike Antico and Xavier's Conor Grammes.
Seton Hall will return to action on Tuesday when it faces local rival NJIT at Kean University in Union, N.J. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
