NEW YORK, N.Y. – For the second straight week, Seton Hall junior Tyler Shedler-McAvoy (Allendale, N.J.) was named BIG EAST Player of the Week, while and teammate Ricky DeVito (Staten Island, N.Y.) was added to the Weekly Honor Roll.
Shedler-McAvoy becomes the first player in Seton Hall history to be named BIG EAST Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks. It's the third time he's received the honor in his career.
Last week, Shedler-McAvoy reached base at least twice in all five contests, and batted a team-best .474 with team-highs of nine RBIs and four stolen bases. On Tuesday at Saint Peter's, he reached base three times, going 1-for-3 with two walks, two runs scored, two RBIs and three stolen bases. The next day at Lafayette, he reached base four times, going 3-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a team-high three RBIs. On Saturday at Xavier, Shedler-McAvoy finished a single shy of the cycle, going 3-for-5 with a home run, a triple, a double, a run scored and three more RBIs. On Sunday, he reached base three more times, going 2-for-4 with a walk, and RBI and a run scored.
DeVito turned in one of his best starts of the season against one of the Pirates' best opponents. The reigning BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year set the tone for Seton Hall in its series at Xavier, leading The Hall to a 3-1 victory in the series opener. DeVito allowed just one run over seven strong innings with eight strikeouts and only one walk.
Creighton's Denson Hull was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week. Those joining DeVito on the Honor include: Creighton's Will Robertson, St. John's Nick Mondak and both Harrison Freed and Kevin Napoleon of Butler.
Seton Hall will return to action on Friday when it hosts Georgetown at Jake Kaiser Stadium on the campus of St. John's University in Queens, N.Y. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
