
Total of 210 Pirates Named BIG EAST All-Academic

NEW YORK, N.Y. - A total of 210 Seton Hall student-athletes have been named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team for the 2018-19 season, the league announced on Tuesday (Aug. 13). The number features multiple members from all 14 varsity sports and in total encompasses over 80 percent of all Seton Hall student-athletes.
Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the BIG EAST's 10 member and nine affiliate institutions. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in a BIG EAST-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.

The nominations are reviewed and approved by the BIG EAST Academic Affairs Committee.
For the eighth-straight year Seton Hall student-athletes broke a record for cumulative GPA, closing the 2018-19 academic year with a 3.431 cumulative GPA. Four student-athletes recently won BIG EAST Sport Excellence Awards for academic and athletic success;Â Clara Capone (women's swimming and diving), Lior Grubert (men's swimming and diving), Mike Nzei (men's basketball) and Chris Yeom (men's golf).
Five programs — baseball, women's cross country, men's golf, women's golf and women's swimming & diving all received NCAA recognition for ranking in the top 10 percent of the nation for Academic Progress Rating (APR). Men's basketball, men's soccer and volleyball also won BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Awards for highest team GPAs in the conference. Amongst the outgoing senior class, 52 of 60 student-athletes earned the academic merit award and graduated with at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA.
