Hood goes 4-for-5 with two RBI in the series finale

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Senior Connor Hood (Shrewsbury, Pa.) went 4-for-5 with two RBI but the Seton Hall baseball team couldn't take the rubber match as Liberty defeated the Pirates, 5-3, on Sunday afternoon.

The Flames, a team that finished 40th in the RPI last season, got strong pitching all day from its starter and relievers. Along with Hood, freshman Devin Hack (Somerville, N.J.) had and RBI double for the Pirates (3-3).

What Happened:
The Pirates struck first in the top of the third on an RBI single from Hood that scored sophomore Alex Clyde (Old Tappan, N.J.) from second base after he reached on a single.

The Flames used a grand slam to take a 4-1 lead in the home half of the inning. After a bounce back inning from starter David Festa (Verona, N.J.) in the fourth, sophomore David Haberman (Morristown, N.J.) reached on an error by the shortstop to lead off the top of the fifth. Hack would later drive him home on his RBI double. Hood then drove Hack home on an RBI single that cut the Hall's deficit to one, 4-3.

Sophomore Brennan O'Neill (Morristown, N.J.) came on in relief of Festa and he worked out of a jam in the fifth but after the Pirates were retired in order in the top of the sixth, a sacrifice fly for Liberty in the home half made it 5-3

The Pirates move to 1-3 all-time against Liberty.
Hood set a new career high with four hits.
Hack, making his fifth career start, registered the second RBI of his career on Sunday.
Redshirt junior Blake Espinal (The Bronx, N.Y.) made his first appearance of the season and he struck out two batters in an inning of work.
