The Pirates got a great start from Reganne Camp (Bloomington, Ill.) but it was not enough as Rhode Island scored in the sixth and seventh innings to get the win.
How it Happened
- After three scoreless innings, Payton Beaver (Lake Stevens, Wash.) got the Pirates on the board with both her first and the team's first home run of the young season, a solo shot to left.
- Rhode Island finally broke through with a solo shot of their own in the sixth.
- The Rams scored the go ahead run with an RBI double in the top half of the seventh.
- Camp pitched a complete game, the 23rd of her career and first of the season.
- In two starts this year, Camp has lowered her ERA to 2.61 with 11 strikeouts.
- Beaver's solo shot was the seventh of her career.
- The Pirates doubled the Rams in hits, 6-3.
The Pirates rounded out the tournament with a win in the final game over Rhode Island, a total team effort.
How it Happened
- The Pirates scored early and often with five runs in the top half of the first inning. Two RBI singles from Abby Wingo (Portland, Ore.) and Marisa Pla (San Clemente, Calif.) started things off before a Kiana Tate (Las Vegas, Nev.) bases-clearing triple stretched the Pirate lead to five after one.
- The freshman Wingo delivered again in the top of the second with another RBI single to make things 6-0.
- After two scoreless innings from Mo Sobel (Newbury Parks, Calif.), the Rams got two back in the third to cut the Pirate lead to 4.
- With play coming to a close, Baylee Allender (Rosharon, Texas) put the cherry on top, a solo shot in the sixth to bring things to 7-2.
- After four games of play, Wingo leads the Pirates with a .533 average and is tied for the team lead with Janae Barracato (Hempstead, N.Y.) with six RBIs apiece.
- Kelsey Gumm (Spokane, Wash.) picked up the win in relief with 2.2 innings of no-hit ball.
- All nine Pirate hitters reached safely.
- All seven of the Pirates runs were scored with two outs in the inning. The Hall is now hitting .524 with two outs.
The Pirates will travel to the West Coast to take part in the Golden State Softball Classic in Lake Elsinore, Calif. on Feb. 14.
