Dana and Shedler-McAvoy both went 3-for-7; Dana had two RBI while Shedler-McAvoy posted two triples over the twin bill. Sophomores Brennan O'Neill (Morristown, N.J.) and David Festa (Verona, N.J.) took the losses today for the Pirates (5-8)
What Happened:
In game one, Saint Mary's jumped out to a 2-0 lead early but starter Ryan McLinskey (Pearl River, N.Y.) settled in an kept the Gaels off the scoreboard through the sixth inning.
In the top of the seventh, Dana led off the inning with a single and he went first to third on another single off the bat of senior Connor Hood (Shrewsbury, Pa.). That set up redshirt junior Christian Del Castillo (Miami, Fla.) who dropped a single into center field that cut the deficit to one, 2-1.
After a sacrifice bunt from sophomore Alex Clyde (Old Tappan, N.J.) moved both runners into scoring position, junior Thomas Holdorf (Freehold, N.J.) drove in Dana on an RBI groundout that tied up the score at 2-2. It wouldn't be enough though as the Gaels pushed across four runs in the home half of the eighth to take a 6-2 lead for good.
In game two, the Pirates fell behind early again but they chipped away at the deficit in the fourth. Shedler-McAvoy led off the inning with a triple to right field and was sent home on the third pitch that Dana, pulling it to left field to make it 3-1. However, Saint Mary's tacked on two more runs in the fifth and a run in the sixth to pad their. Despite another triple by Shedler-McAvoy, who was again driven in by Dana, in the ninth inning, a 6-2 lead for the Gaels was too much to overcome.
