South Orange, N.J. - The Seton Hall baseball program and Pirate Blue announced today that the annual First Pitch Dinner will be back on campus in Bethany Hall on Thursday, Jan. 20th, 2022 at 6 p.m. Â
The guest speaker will be Seton Hall baseball legend Marteese Robinson. Robinson was inducted into the Seton Hall Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002 and his No. 9 is retired and displayed inside Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium at Owen T. Carroll Field. Â
While in South Orange, Robinson had a standout career and one of the greatest seasons in collegiate baseball history. He was the NCAA National Co-Player of the Year in 1987 and led the country with a .529 average, which was the second-highest batting average of all time. His contributions guided the Pirates to a 45-10 record and the program's first-ever BIG East Tournament championship. Â
Robinson was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the sixth round of the 1987 MLB Draft. He played in the Athletics organization until 1990 and played in 388 career games with 24 home runs and 39 stolen bases. Post playing career, he worked as a scout for the St. Louis Cardinals, Washington Nationals, and Toronto Blue Jays. Â
