Longwood 3 – Seton Hall 2
How it Happened
- The Pirates got a solid start out of freshman Kelsey Carr (Ridgewood, N.Y.) who went six innings while giving up three runs on three hits in her collegiate debut. Carr racked up eight strikeouts through the first four innings before surrendering three runs in the fifth inning.
- The Hall would get on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh inning when Darby Pandolfo (Massapequa, N.Y.) hit a two-run home run to left-center.
- Following Pandolfo's two-run shot, The Hall was able to get the tying run to second but ultimately dropped the season opener, 3-2.
- Pandolfo's home run was the 18th of her career moving her into 12th place alone on the all-time program leader list.
- The eight strikeouts for Carr were the most in game by a Pirate pitcher since Reganne Camp racked up 12 punchouts against Butler on April 7, 2019.
- The Pirates outhit the Lancers 4-3 in the tight affair.
- This is the second consecutive year in which Seton Hall opened the season against Longwood.
How it Happened
- The host Gamecocks got out to an early lead with five runs in the first and another two runs in the second to go up 7-0 after two innings.
- The Pirates were able to scratch across two runs in the third after a few singles and a bases loaded walk from Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.).
- South Carolina would get back those two runs in the home-half of the third to bring the lead back to seven.
- After a Pandolfo double, freshman Hannah Alexander (Wrightstown, N.J.) picked up her first career base hit and subsequent first RBI in the fifth.
- The Gamecocks would cap off the game with two runs in the fifth for a final score of 11-3.
- Arteaga's RBI in the third was her 109th as a Pirate and moves her into a tie with Kristen Kaelin for sixth all-time.
- Seven different Pirates were able to get into the hit column in the setback.
- Cadyn Ehrenberg (Fremont, Wisc.) saw her first action in a Seton Hall uniform with 1.1 innings pitched in relief while picking up two strikeouts.
