Hooper registered three shots on Thursday night
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Despite taking a team-high 10 shots, including multiple chances late in the second half, the Seton Hall women's soccer team couldn't get past Providence as the Friars topped the Pirates in their home opener, 1-0.
Senior Laura Hooper (Watford, England) led The Hall (1-3, 0-3 BIG EAST) with three shots, including two on goal. Seniors Izzy Engel (Crescent, Pa.) and Alyssa Reszkowski chipped in with two shots a piece.
Providence took a 1-0 lead in the 61st minute off of a corner kick but the Pirates kept the pressure on. Junior Naomi Welch (Livingston, Scotland) provided a spark off the bench offensively where she had two shots at the goal with under six minutes to play. One attempt was missed wide to the right. The second came off of an excellent pass by Engel outside the 18-yard box and into the area that found its way into the goal but was negated by an offsides call.
Seton Hall returns to action on Sunday when its travels to Connecticut for a game that will kick off at 2 p.m.
