Seton Hall is scheduled to play five games on campus this week

QUEENS, N.Y. – Despite a solid start from senior Tyler Burnham (East Brunswick, N.J.), the Seton Hall baseball team settled for a split in the four-game series against St. John's as the Red Storm topped the Pirates, 4-2, on Sunday.

Burnham struck out six, allowed only three hits and didn't give up a run in four innings of work for The Hall (15-15, 8-3 BIG EAST). Junior Alex Clyde (Old Tappan, N.J.) continued his strong play by reaching base in three of his four plate appearances and driving in a run on an RBI single.

How It Happened:

The Pirates put runners on in the first three innings and two runners on in the sixth and seventh innings but couldn't muster a run. Meanwhile, Burnham and junior Brennan O'Neill (Morristown, N.J.) kept the St. John's bats at bay through six and half innings of play.

It was in the bottom of the seventh where the Red Storm pushed four runs across to take a 4-0 lead. The Hall would battle back though the very next inning.

Senior Casey Dana (Montgomery, N.Y.) led off the top of the eighth on a single through the left side. With one out, junior Justin Scotto (Tinton Falls, N.J.) was hit by a pitch and both him and Dana moved into scoring following a groundout to first base by junior Steve Grober (Hillsborough, N.J.).

Senior Collin Sheehan (Doylestown, Pa.) was the next batter and he drew a walk on a 3-2 pitch that was in the dirt and got past the catcher. Heads up base running by Dana gave the Pirates their first run of the game. Clyde followed Sheehan with a single to center field – his seventh RBI of the series – that Scotto scored on easily from third base, cutting the Seton Hall deficit to two, 4-2.

A walk drawn by senior Jerry Huntzinger (Staten Island, N.Y.) in the top of the ninth inning but it wouldn't be enough as St. John's was able to claim the series finale.

After two weeks away from the friendly confines of Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium at Owen T. Carroll Field, Seton Hall will return home this week to face Lafayette in a midweek game on Wednesday at 4 p.m. and a four-game BIG EAST series against Georgetown beginning on Friday, April 30.
