The Pirates now turn their attentions to the BIG EAST Tournament in Mason, Ohio

STORRS, Conn. – Despite a 2-for-4 afternoon for graduate student Matt Toke (Three Bridges, N.J.) and a solid relief performance by sophomore Chris Shine (South Plainfield, N.J.), the Seton Hall baseball team couldn't salvage the final game of its series with Connecticut as the Huskies defeated the Pirates, 10-2, on Saturday.

Despite the loss, the Pirates (23-23, 16-11 BIG EAST) are heading to the BIG EAST Tournament for the 10th consecutive season and they finish with the most conference victories of any BIG EAST team.

Sophomore Devin Hack (Somerville, N.J.) was the second batter of the game and he reached base on a walk. With two down in the inning, Toke stepped to the plate and delivered a double to left center field. Hack scored all the way from first as Toke's extra base hit gave The Hall a 1-0 lead.

Connecticut countered with two runs in the second and two runs in the third that put them ahead 4-1. Shine then came out of the bullpen and retired the side in the top of the fourth before working a clean 1-2-3 bottom of the fifth.

Shine's effort put the Pirates in position to cut their deficit to two in the top of the sixth. With runners on first and second and two outs, junior Alex Clyde (Old Tappan, N.J.) dropped a 1-2 pitch into center field and Toke came around from second to score, making it 4-2 in favor of UConn. It wouldn't be enough though as the Huskies tacked on three runs in the seventh and three runs in the eighth, putting the game out of reach.

Seton Hall will next head to the 2021 BIG EAST Championship Presented by Jeep held at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio. The Pirates are the three seed and will face the two seed Creighton at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 27. Games 1-5 on Thursday-Saturday will air live on the BIG EAST Digital Network on YouTube.
