
Acevedo, Tait Fueling Pirates Through Two Rounds at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – Graduate students Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) and Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England) are even-par through two rounds and the Seton Hall men's golf team is in third place after 36 holes at the Princeton Invitational.

Acevedo shaved four strokes off his first-round score and used four birdies and 11 pars to shoot a 2-under-par, 71, in round two. For the tournament, he's tied for 12th with an even-par, 73-69-142. Tait was the exact opposite, but had the same score. He birdied his last two holes of the day to shoot a 2-over-par, 73, in round two. For the tournament, he's even-par with a 69-73-142.

As a team, the Pirates trail a pair of Princeton teams and are in third place in a field of 15 teams after 36 holes. The Pirates shaved six strokes off their first-round score in the afternoon and are currently 2-under-par with a 286-280-566 for the tournament. Princeton's "B" team surprisingly is 9-under-par to lead the tournament, while their "A" is in second place at 8-under-par. BIG EAST competitor, Georgetown, is currently in ninth place at 13-over-par.

Freshman Angus O'Brien (Barwon Heads, Australia) and junior Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) are currently tied for 18th place overall with a 1-over-par, 143. O'Brien was brilliant in round two, shaving off seven strokes for a 3-under-par, 68, thanks in part to five birdies. For the tournament, he's 1-over-par with a 75-68-143. Xie shaved off three strokes and used 13 pars and three birdies to shoot a 1-under-par, 70, in round two. He's 1-over-par with a 73-70-143.

Senior Deven Ramachandran (San Rafael, Calif.) had a great first round, using 14 pars to shoot an even-par, 71. For the tournament, he's shooting a 9-over-par, 71-80-151.

THE COURSE
Dating back to 1895, Springdale Golf Club is one of the oldest in New Jersey. Designed by Gerard Lambert and revised by William Flynn in 1926, the walkable course requires precision shot-making and has superior conditions and playability. The property, which was originally private farmland, was purchased by the Class of 1886 and gifted to Princeton University with the expectation of establishing one of the first courses in the region. The private club has a close relationship with the University, and counts many university professors, administrators and students among its members.  With a fine and experienced PGA staff, the club hosts numerous tournaments, collegiate matches, clinics and golf outings every year.Â

In addition to Seton Hall and two teams from host Princeton, the field features teams from Brown (club), Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Howard, Penn, Rider, Saint Joseph's, Temple and Yale. BIG EAST opponent Georgetown is also in the field.

The teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.

The field will play 36 continuous holes on Saturday and one final round on Sunday. Play begins with a tee times starting at 7:45 am on Saturday, and 8:15 a.m. on Sunday. The Hall will be paired with golfers from Princeton and Howard on Saturday.
