South Orange, N.J. — Seton Hall baseball head coach Rob Sheppard announced Monday the he has added Jimmy Moran, an area scouting supervisor and Minor League coach for the Cincinnati Reds, to his coaching staff as pitching coach.
Moran brings experience pitching in the BIG EAST at South Florida from 2010-11 and a professional pedigree after working in the Reds' organization the last seven years.
"Jimmy's experience as a player, scout and coach makes him a well-rounded addition to our staff," said Sheppard. "He has evaluated players all over the country and has helped them in their development to get to the next level. Jimmy knows what it takes for players to have success in college and beyond."
Along with his scouting responsibilities, which covered multiple states since 2016, Moran has worked in a myriad of roles on the field developing pitchers with the Reds. He was the club's on-field representative for the 2019 USA Baseball Player Development Pipeline League before working in the Arizona Complex League as a developmental coach in 2021. Moran was slated to work this season as a developmental coach with the Daytona Dragons, the Reds' High-A affiliate.
Beginning in the Fall of 2016, Moran oversaw scouting in several territories for Cincinnati. Moran was responsible for 2017 fifth-round selection Mac Sceroler, who reached the Major Leagues in 2021. Moran was also the signing scout for the Reds' 2021 first-round draft pick, taking Matt McLain with the 17th overall selection. McLain is up to Double-A in the Reds organization this season.
Moran transferred to USF after playing one season at Community College of Baltimore County-Catonsville. After making 15 appearances with five starts in 2010 for the Bulls, he went 4-1 with a 3.97 ERA in 20 appearances as a junior. He was picked by the Reds in the 2011 MLB Draft and he reached the highest level of the Minor Leagues with the Louisville Bats at Triple-A
