
Pirates Close Homestand Against Delaware

South Orange, N.J. – Coming off of their first home win of the season, a 2-0 shutout over Saint Joseph's on August 28, the Seton Hall women's soccer team wraps up a three-game homestead on Sunday as the Pirates get set to face Delaware on Sunday, Sept. 4, at 1 p.m. at Owen T. Carroll Field.

NEWS & NOTES
- Since falling in their season opener, Seton Hall has gone 2-0-1 with wins over Saint Joseph's and Central Connecticut State.
- The Pirates are coming off of a 2-0 win over Saint Joseph's on August 28 at Owen T. Carroll Field.
- Two first half goals — the first by freshman Emma Sheehan (Argyle, Texas) and the second by sophomore Natalie Tavana (Middletown, N.J.) — and stout defense propelled the Pirates to victory over the Hawks.
- The win marked the first home victory for first-year head coach Josh Osit.
- For their roles in not allowing a goal over two matches, sophomore Chiara Pucci (Munich, Germany) was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and senior goalkeeper Grace Gordon (Chester Springs, Pa.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
- From her center back position, Pucci played the full 90 minutes in both games and she helped the Pirates limit NJIT and Saint Joseph's to a combined three shots on goal.
- Pucci is first Pirate to be named Defensive Player of the Week since 2012.
- Gordon had one shutout in the 2-0 win over the Hawks and one shared shutout last week with sophomore Anna Prawer (London, England) against NJIT.
- Last season, the Pirates went to Delaware and defeated the Blue Hens, 1-0, on a goal scored in the 70th minute by Emma Ramsay.
- Seton Hall has seen steady improvement over the last three seasons and in 2021 the Pirates finished with six, their most in a season since 2012.
- The team's win at Villanova was the program's first over the Wildcats since 2013 and its first BIG EAST road win since 2011.
- Seton Hall's six goal outburst in a win over Iona was the program's most goals scored in a match since 2008.
- The Pirates return its top two goal scorers from last season in senior forwards Naomi Welch (Livingston, Scotland) and Julia Aronov (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) who both tallied four goals.
- Senior Grace Gordon (Chester Springs, Pa.) returns for her third season between the pipes for the Pirates where she has racked up 143 saves in 28 games over two full seasons.
- The Pirates are bolstered by a strong sophomore class that features Natalie Tavana (Middletown, Conn.), who started and played in all 18 matches last season and tallied three assists and two goals, and Chiara Pucci (Munich, Germany) who made 10 starts and played in 821 minutes at center back.
