How it Happened
- Seton Hall threatened to score in the opening frame after Ashly Colonnetta (Cypress, Texas) and Hill led off the game with back-to-back singles. After a walk to Kelsey Carr (Ridgewood, N.Y.) loaded the bases, Rutgers starter Raimy Gamsby was able to work her way out of the inning unscathed.
- After the Scarlet Knights grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second, the Pirates answered quickly. Hill lined her fourth home run of the year down the left field line to tie the score at 1-1.
- After Rutgers hit one over the fence itself in the bottom of the third, the Pirates once again had to answer back. They did so in the top of the fourth as Amber Johnson (Belfair, Wash.) hit an infield single to score Miranda Arruda (Pawcatuck, Conn.) to tie the game at 2-2.
- Smith came on in relief in the fifth inning and avoided any trouble until the eighth, where Rutgers had two runners on and two out. With the winning run at second, Smith was able to get a strikeout to end the threat.
- The Scarlet Knights walked it off in the bottom of the ninth after Kyleigh Sand singled, stole second, and scored on a single.
- Hill hit two home runs this weekend and now has four on the season through 14 games. It took Hill until her 31st game last season to hit her fourth homer.
- Smith went four scoreless innings in relief before allowing the game-winning run in the ninth. Over her 18.1 innings of work this weekend, Smith allowed just three earned runs and struck out 24.
- Wingo picked up her third multi-hit game of the weekend and finishes the weekend going 8-for-15 (.533) at the plate.
