How it Happened
The Pirates got right to work in the top of the first, with Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.) leading things off with a triple. Carr then stepped in and launched a two-run home run over the wall in left-center to give the Pirates the early edge. A few pitcher later, Gilbert would shoot one out to center to make it an early 3-0 Seton Hall advantage.

The Hoyas would respond with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first to tie the game, but the Pirates would not be deterred. In the third, Katey Brennan (Yardley, Pa.) would lace a one out double and be brought home on another double from Lela Allen (Phoenix, Ariz.), making it a 4-3 Pirate lead.

The sixth inning brought some insurance runs for Seton Hall which would prove to be crucial. With the bases loaded, Gilbert hit a rocket to the shortstop, causing a misplay which scored the runner from third. Next, Brennan reached on an infield single which ended up scoring two runs to make it a 7-3 lead.
Georgetown would draw closer in the bottom half of the frame, scoring twice to cut the deficit in half heading into the seventh. Kyra Kreuscher (Great River, N.Y.) came on for the save, working around a one out walk to seal the victory.
