Gilbert Drives in Three as Pirates Take Series From Creighton, 9-3

How it Happened
Creighton's offense got to Seton Hall starting pitcher Kyra Kreuscher (Great River, N.Y.) out of the gates, as a sacrifice fly and an RBI single gave the Bluejays a 2-0 lead. The Pirates responded immediately with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first. Katey Brennan (Yardley, Pa.) came in to score on a throwing error, followed by an RBI single by Lela Allen (Phoenix, Ariz.) to tie things up at 2-2.

In the second, The Hall would take the lead for good by bringing two more runs home. Lauren Caye (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.) hit back-to-back doubles to give the Pirates a 3-2 lead. Later in the inning, Gilbert would knock in her first run of the game on an RBI groundout. Gilbert would do more damage in the fourth, lining a two-run double to right center to give the Pirates some cushion.

The Bluejays would mount some late threats to try and fight their way back in the game. The greatest threat came in the sixth against Kelsey Carr (Ridgewood, N.Y.), when Creighton loaded the bases with nobody out. A groundout to shortstop recorded the first out of the inning, however it also brought in a run to make it a 6-3 game. Carr would dig deep and induce a pop out and a strikeout to escape the threat.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Pirates padded the lead even more for Carr. Brennan roped an RBI double to left to score Amber Johnson (Belfair, Wash.) with the seventh Seton Hall run. Later in the frame, Erin Howard (Skillman, N.J.) went to the opposite field for an RBI single, followed by a perfectly executed squeeze play by Andrea Perez (Corona, Calif.) to score Taylor Soanes (Missouri City, Texas) from third.
