Villanova, Pa. – The Seton Hall softball team opened BIG EAST play on Friday afternoon, suffering a pair of setbacks to Villanova. The Pirates fell in game one, 5-0, before being a dealt a game two defeat, 6-1.

How it Happened

Both starting pitchers got off to strong starts in the circle, as neither offense collected a base hit through the first three innings.
Seton Hall loaded the bases in the fourth thanks to a pair of walks and a single from Erin Howard (Skillman, N.J.). However, the Pirates were unable to cash in as a fielder's choice and a fly out ended the inning.
Villanova got on the board in the fourth inning thanks to a two-run home run.
The Pirates threatened again in the fifth with runners on first and second, but the inning would end after Andrea Perez (Corona, Calif.) was thrown out at home plate after a single from Katey Brennan (Yardley, Pa.).
Villanova would extend its lead in the sixth on a three-run home run.

How it Happened

Villanova got on the board first with a fielder's choice in the second inning which brought home a run.
Leading off the fourth inning, Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.) tied the game up at 1-1 by launching a solo home run to center field.
The Wildcats would regain the lead in the bottom of the fourth on an Ava Franz grand slam, and add an insurance run in the fifth after an errant throw on a steal attempt.

News & Notes

Hill's home run was her third of the season.
Olivia Gilbert (Johnston, R.I.) tallied hits in both ends of the doubleheader to extend her hitting streak to seven straight games.
Howard also pushed her hitting streak up to five games.
