Carr Dominates, Late Rally Pushes Pirates Past UConn, 5-0

How it Happened
Carr had the strikeout pitch working early, fanning four of the first six batters she faced as she set down the first six UConn hitters. The Huskies were able to work a runner into scoring position with one out in the third, but a strikeout and a lineout prevented any damage.
Seton Hall's first threat mounted in the bottom of the third, as three singles loaded the bases with two out for Lela Allen (Phoenix, Ariz.). Allen hit one hard into center field, but it was hauled in to help UConn escape the inning unscathed.
Carr continues to cruise in the circle, working clean innings in the fourth and fifth to take a no-hitter into the sixth. A bloop single by Sarah Blaskiewicz just out of the reach of Caroline Hobbes (Bay Shore, N.Y.) in short right field gave the Huskies their first base hit of the afternoon. Pinch runner Caylee De Meo was eventually bunted into scoring position, but would later be caught stealing at third on a perfect throw from Erin Howard (Skillman, N.J.).

With UConn's opportunity spoiled, the Pirates came to bat in the bottom of the sixth determined to break the scoreless tie. Howard opened the frame with a single, followed by a sacrifice bunt and a strikeout to put two outs on the board and a runner at second. Three consecutive walks were issued by UConn starter Hallie Siems, including the go-ahead bases loaded free pass to Carr to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.

The Hall was not done there. Olivia Gilbert (Johnston, R.I.) stepped in with the bases full and laced a three-run double down the line in left field to clear the bases. Katey Brennan (Yardley, Pa.) followed with an RBI single to left center field to put the cap on a five-run rally for the Pirates.
