Pirates Drop BIG EAST Tourney Opener to St. John's, 7-2

Providence, R.I. – The Pirates dropped their opening round game of the BIG EAST Softball Tournament on Wednesday afternoon to St. John's, 7-2.
With the loss, the Pirates will play an elimination game on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. against No. 6 seed Butler. The game was originally slated for 6 p.m. on Wednesday but was postponed due to inclement weather.
How it Happened
After St. John's struck first with a run in the top of the second, the Pirates mounted a threat in the bottom half. A walk to Erin Howard (Skillman, N.J.) and a pair of singles from Andrea Perez (Corona, Calif.) and Amber Johnson (Belfair, Wash.) loaded the bases for Lela Allen (Phoenix, Ariz.). However, Allen would ground out to first to end the inning.
St. John's would tack on two more in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead. The Pirates would once again piece together baserunners the following frame in the fifth, loading the bases for the second time in the contest. However, a strikeout of Howard kept the Pirates off the scoreboard.
The Red Storm put up four more runs across the sixth and seventh innings to widen their lead. Seton Hall would avoid the shutout in the bottom of the seventh as Kelsey Carr (Ridgewood, N.Y.) smacked a two-run home run to left field.

- Hill scored her 48th run of the season, tying her single-season program record from last season.
- Carr's home run was her 10th of the season, giving her double digit home runs in consecutive seasons.
- Carr is the first Pirate with consecutive 10+ home run seasons since Alexis Walkden in 2017-2018.
