South Orange, N.J. -- Graduate student Jonathan Luders (Lynnfield, Mass.), senior Zack Sylvester (Montville, N.J.) and sophomore Ryan Reich (Selinsgrove, Pa.) have been named the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Baseball Team for their outstanding play on the field and in the classroom.
Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and they must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average in order to be named to the All-District Team.
Reich was an All-BIG EAST First Team selection and he finished as the BIG EAST's regular season strikeout champion with 89 punch outs, the most for a Seton Hall pitcher since Josh Prevost's 111 strikeouts in 2014. In conference games, Reich finished with the second-most strikeouts (51) and posted the third-lowest opponent's batting average (.194). A 2024 Preseason All-BIG EAST selection, Reich was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week following a career-best performance at Georgetown where he struck out 13 batters in seven innings.
Sylvester put together a career-year in his final season in South Orange. He led the team and set career bests in batting average (.315), RBI (34) and walks (30). He also finished in a tie for the team lead with six home runs and had 17 multi-hit games and 12 multi-RBI performances. Off the field, he presented research at the BIG EAST Undergraduate Research Symposium held in March before the men's BIG EAST Tournament final at Madison Square Garden.
Luders played and started in all 52 games for the Pirates in his final season. He finished with 43 hits, 17 RBI and finished third on the team in runs scored 29. Luders also finished the regular season with the most hit by pitches in the BIG EAST with 22, ranked second with 140 assists and tied for second with seven sacrifice bunts.
