How it Happened
Seton Hall's offense came out of the gates hot, plating a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Gabe Cavazzoni led off the game by drawing a walk, followed by Aiden Dill keeping his hot streak going with a single through the right side. Later in the inning with both runners now in scoring position, a passed ball would allow Cavazzoni to scamper home from third with the game's first run. That same at bat ended with Aidan Sengenberger grounding out to third to bring home Dill from third.
Two innings later, Sengenberger would tack on his second RBI of the game to pad the Pirate lead. After Cavazzoni drew another walk to open the inning and advanced his way to third, Sengenberger singled to left field to allow him to score and give Seton Hall a 3-0 lead.
After two clean innings to open his outing, Pirate starting pitcher Steven Svenson surrendered his first run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single. Svenson was able to strand one runner to maintain a two-run lead, followed by setting down the side in order in the fourth to keep the Pirates in front.
In the fifth, the Salukis would tack on two runs to tie the game and force Svenson out of the game. The contest would remain tied until the seventh, when Southern Illinois scored twice to take the lead for good, 5-3.
