How It Happened – Game One vs. Indiana State
- The Pirates found themselves down 3-0 early in the first inning after the Sycamores' first seven batters reached base. That deficit would expand to 4-0 in the second inning after allowing an RBI single.
- In the fourth inning, the Pirates managed to cut the deficit in half. After loading the bases to open the inning, a pair of sacrifice flies by Sophia DeMarco and Erin Howard made it a two-run game, 4-2, heading to the bottom of the inning.
- Indiana State, however, would respond by adding three runs in the bottom half of the inning, all on extra-base hits, turning it into a 7-2 game.
- Katey Brennan responded in the seventh inning, striking a double to deep center field to score Angelina Benitez, making it now a 7-3 hole.
- The Pirates had a chance to tie the game in the seventh inning after they loaded the bases with no outs. However, despite having three chances with the game-tying run at the plate, no runner found their way home and the Pirates fell 7-3.
- Through five innings, the Pirates found themselves down 5-0 following multi-run showings from UT Martin in the first and fourth innings.
- Seton Hall got on the board in the sixth inning, though, when Caroline Hobbes drove in Benitez to make it a 5-1 game.
- With everything on the line, the Pirates were down to their last three outs in the seventh inning. Just like the first game of the day, the Pirates loaded the bases with no outs, giving them an immense opportunity to tie the game.
- First, it would be an RBI single from Benitez to make it a 5-2 game. Immediately after, Katey Brennan lodged a sacrifice fly to drive in Christina Ginex. Gabby Mercado also scored on a throwing error to make it a 5-4 game with only one out.
- With Benitez now on third, Hobbes knocked a ball off the pitcher's circle to score her and tie the game at 5-5 before the end of the inning. The team would go on to force extras after allowing only one base runner in the bottom half of the inning.
- After a chaotic start to the eighth inning, Andrea Perez drove in Elisabeth Figliolino to give The Hall a 6-5 lead and put them on the precipice of a comeback win.
- However, after getting two outs in the bottom of the inning, the Pirates gave up two runs to lose 7-6 and end the team's run at the Frank Griffin Classic.
