How It Happened
- For the first time this weekend, The Hall struck first in this weekend's series. Sophia DeMarco and Caroline Hobbes each drove home a run in the first inning, handing the Pirates an early 2-0 lead.
- Creighton took the lead from Seton Hall in the second inning after the ninth pitch of a prolonged at-bat was sent over the wall in right centerfield for a three-run home run, putting The Hall down 3-2.
- While both sides traded 1-2-3 innings in the third frame, the Blue Jays sent another three-run home run over the wall in right field to put Seton Hall down 6-2.
- Despite the deficit, the Pirates came roaring back in the fourth inning. After loading the bases with one out, Katey Brennan drove home a run on a sacrifice fly to make it a 6-3 game.
- Immediately after Brennan, DeMarco returned to the plate looking to pull The Hall even. The sophomore would drive in another two runs on a single up the middle to end the inning down only one, 6-5.
- After shutting down the Blue Jays in the top of the sixth inning, the Pirates once again returned to the plate, this time on the precipice of tying the game. After an error and a hit batsman helped put two runners in scoring position with one out, the Pirates held the momentum.
- Seton Hall took advantage of the situation when a hard-hit ground ball to the opposing shortstop forced a play at the plate between Gabby Mercado and the Blue Jays' catcher. Mercado beat out the opposing tax, evening the game at 6-6 before two groundouts ended the inning.
- After getting two outs in the top of the seventh, The Hall sat on the precipice of a chance to end the game in the bottom half of the frame. However, an error on the throw to first allowed a run to score, putting the Pirates down 7-6. Two more runs would cross the plate before the inning end, making it a 9-6 game.
- Now needing to come back once again, Andrea Perez pulled back one run on a two-out single, making it a 9-7 hole with only one out. The Pirates would be unable to complete the comeback, however, falling to Creighton for the third time on the weekend, 9-7.
- With the loss, the Pirates move to 6-10 on the season and 0-3 in BIG EAST play.
- With one hit today, Benitez extended her hitting streak to nine games.
- Also, with two runs scored, she also reached 15 runs scored on the season.
- With a three RBI today, DeMarco eclipsed 15 RBI on the season.
- Perez recorded her fifth multi-hit game of the season and fourth in five games.
- She also recorded her fourth multi-RBI game of the season.
