How It Happened  (Game One)
- After struggling in the early innings over the weekend, the Pirates' offense entered game one of the doubleheader ready to battle. After the first two batters reached base, Sophia DeMarco knocked the 2-2 pitch down the left field line to drive in Angelina Benitez and take a 1-0 lead.
- Naya Martinez followed DeMarco's effort up with a sacrifice fly, bringing home Katey Brennan to make it a 2-0 game.
- In response to The Hall's early surge, Army met Seton Hall with extreme force. The Black Knights drove in one run in the first before producing an explosive second frame. The host team drove in five runs, including three on a three-run home run, to make it a 6-2 Army lead after two frames.
- Staring down a large deficit, The Hall notched a response in the third inning when Erin Howard drove home one run on a fielder's choice to make it a 6-3 game. Unfortunately, a two-RBI double by the Black Knights in the bottom of the inning expanded the deficit to 8-3 before the frame ended.
- Before the end of the game, Brennan would drive home one on an RBI single in the fourth inning. Ultimately, The Hall would add no more, falling in game one to Army, 8-4.
- Once again, The Hall answered the bell at the plate in the opening inning of game two. With two runners on and two outs, Andrea Perez dropped a ball into right field, allowing Brennan to score to give The Hall the 1-0 lead.
- Unfortunately for The Hall, the compounding effect of stolen bases pushed Army in front 2-1 in the bottom of the first after an RBI single and a sacrifice fly. As the bottom half of Seton Hall's order began to struggle, the Black Knights added three more runs in the third to expand the Pirates' deficit to 5-1.
- Despite a pair of strong rally attempts, including a bases-loaded opportunity in the fourth, The Hall remained unable to lodge a response and fell 6-1 in game two.
- With the loss, the Pirates move to 13-22 on the season and 3-12 in BIG EAST play.
- With three total hits and at least one in each game, Benitez has now recorded a hit in 31 of 35 games this season.
- With the three hits, she reached 50 total knocks on the season.
- Brennan went a perfect 6-for-6 with two runs scored, an RBI and a walk today.
- Perez, Martinez, Howard and DeMarco also recorded RBI today.
- Kreuscher tied her single-game high with seven strikeouts in 3.2 innings of relief in game one.
The Pirates will remain on the road this weekend when they travel to Villanova, Pennsylvania, to take on the Villanova Wildcats in a do-or-die three game series for both teams. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
