Smarslok brings an impressive resume of baseball playing and coaching experience to South Orange despite entering the coaching profession only three years ago. The former three-time DIII College World Series participant was a four-year starter for Kean University, an All-Conference performer and National Rawlings Gold Glove recipient.Â
Smarslok helped lead Kean to two NJAC Tournament championships and three DIII NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional titles. A native of Jackson, N.J., he led Kean to 153 victories in four years.
Since graduation, Smarslok has served assistant baseball coach positions at Kean, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges and Heidelberg University. At Heidelberg, he was fully immersed in all aspects of coaching including offensive/defensive strategy, fundraising, field maintenance, strength & conditioning, academic monitoring and mechanics development.
