Zack Weigel was named to head coach Rob Sheppard's staff as Director of Baseball Operations prior to the 2018 season.

A 2016 Seton Hall graduate, Weigel returns to the Pirates after parts of two seasons with the independent Schaumburg Bombers. In 2017, he batted .315 with eight home runs and 53 RBIs in 348 at bats for Schaumburg.

As an undergraduate student, Weigel was a four-year starter in the Seton Hall outfield. Named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team in both his junior and senior seasons, he was twice named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team and is tied for 10th in Seton Hall history with 199 career games played. Weigel is tied for fourth all-time at Seton Hall in career triples, and ninth in both at bats and runs scored. Weigel's 119 career walks are tied for fourth with MLB Hall of Famer Craig Biggio.
