NOTRE DAME, IND. – The Seton Hall baseball team scored two runs in the eighth, but couldn’t complete the rally, and fell at #15 Notre Dame, 3-2, in the first game of a double-header on Saturday. The Pirates banged out nine hits, but could only muster two runs. Sophomore Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.) went 3-for-4. Senior Giuseppe Papaccio (Nutley, N.J.) was 2-for-4. Seton Hall starter Josh Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J.) ran into early trouble, giving up a sacrifice fly that scored a run in the bottom of the first. Then, in the bottom of the third inning, a ground out plated Notre Dame’s second run to make it 2-0 in favor of the Irish. Sam Burum (Robbinsville, N.J.) came on in relief of Prevost and pitched well. The freshman gave up just one earned run, his first of the season, in 3.1 innings. The run, scored on by a wild pitch by Ricky Mangione (Orange, Conn.), gave the Irish a 3-0 lead. Seton Hall rallied in the eighth, but fell just short of tying the game. Mike Genovese (Livingston, N.J.) singled to lead off the inning and advanced to second on an infield single by Zack Weigel (Oak Park, Ill.). With one out, Zack Granite (Staten Island, N.Y.) doubled down the left field line to score Genovese. Chris Selden (Allenhurst, N.J.) followed with a ground out that scored Weigel with the Pirates’ second run, but the Pirates would get no closer. The Pirates left two on base in the top of the ninth against Notre Dame closer Dan Slania. Due to inclement weather, Sunday’s game has been moved up to become a part of a double-header on Saturday.
