EASTON, PA. – The Seton Hall baseball team banged out 12 hits in an easy 11-2 mid-week victory at Lafayette on Tuesday. Mike Genovese (Livingston, N.J.) and Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.) had three hits apiece and combined for seven runs scored. Seven Pirates recorded at least one RBI. Seton Hall (9-12) got on the board first with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. Annunziata singled and stole second. Genovese tripled to the wall in left field to score Annunziata with the first run of the game. After Kyle Grimm (Bergenfield, N.J.) walked, Chris Selden (Allenhurst, N.J.) grounded into a double play, which scored Genovese to give the Pirates a 2-0 advantage. After Lafayette got on the board with a run in the bottom of the second, Seton Hall got it back in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly by Giuseppe Papaccio (Nutley, N.J.). In the bottom of the third, the Leopards loaded the bases, but Luke Cahill (Tinton Falls, N.J.) entered the game and got the third out via a three-pitch strikeout. The Pirates broke the game open in the top of the fourth. Genovese singled to lead off the inning. Grimm attempted to bunt Genovese to second, but a pair of throwing errors by Lafayette enabled Genovese to score from first. Then with two outs, Zack Granite (Staten Island, N.Y.) delivered a bloop single into centerfield to drive in two more runs and give the Pirates a 6-1 advantage. Leading 7-2, Jon Beaubien (Livingston, N.J.) delivered a two-out, two-RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to extend the Pirates’ lead to 9-2. Seven Seton Hall pitchers combined to limit Lafayette to just two runs. Connor Delepine (Middletown, N.J.) was credited with the victory. Seton Hall will return to action on Thursday, March 28 when it hosts BIG EAST foe Connecticut for a double-header. First pitch of the first game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
