Baseball Swept at San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - The Seton Hall baseball team out-hit its opponent for the third time this season, but fell in its finale with San Diego State, 6-2, on Sunday.
The Pirates were playing in their third game of a seven-game road trip in California during Seton Hall's spring break.
Sophomore Jose Lopez (Cranbury, N.J.) made his first start of the 2013 season for Seton Hall, but after working a perfect first inning, the right-hander failed to record an out in the second. Three straight Aztecs reached base to start the inning, fueled by a pair of walks, to load the bases with no outs. Josh Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J.) came on in relief, but gave up a run scoring sacrifice fly and a two-RBI double to give San Diego State an early 3-0 lead.
Prevost settled down however, and pitched well in relief. The 6-foot-8 junior gave up just one earned run in three and two-thirds of an inning pitched. His lone blemish was giving up a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the fourth which extended the Aztec lead to 4-0.
The Pirates' offense broke through in the top of the sixth with back-to-back extra-base hits to start the inning. Junior Zack Granite (Staten Island, N.Y.) led off with a double down the right field line, and senior Mike Genovese (Livingston, N.J.) drove him in with a triple. Genovese however, was stranded at third, ending the Pirates threat with the score, 4-1.
In the top of the eighth inning, the Pirates again cut into their deficit. With two outs, Genovese singled, and Scott Kalamar (Bethlehem, Pa.) delivered an RBI double to right center scoring Genovese with Pirates second run.
San Diego State (7-5) however, extended their lead to 6-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Three Pirates, Granite, Genovese and Chris Selden (Allenhurst, N.J.), recorded two hits for Seton Hall, which had nine as a team. Senior Giuseppe Papaccio (Nutley, N.J.) went 1-for-3, extending his team-leading hit streak to seven straight games.
Seton Hall (0-8) will remain in California and return to action on Wednesday, March 6 for a mid-week matchup with the University of San Diego. First pitch is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. ET.
