MALIBU, CALIF. - Senior Jon Prosinski (Skillman, N.J.) pitched a complete-game to lift the Seton Hall baseball team to its first win of the season, a 6-2 victory at Pepperdine on Friday.
Prosinski gave up just two runs on six hits and struck out four without walking a batter.
The Pirates struck first with three runs in the top of the third inning. Freshman Zack Weigel (Oak Park, Ill.) led off with a walk. With one out, Alex Falconi (Freeport, N.Y.) delivered a single to center field, moving Weigel to second. Junior Zack Granite (Staten Island, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single through the right side to score the first Seton Hall run of the evening. Mike Genovese (Livingston, N.J.) then singled home Falconi to give the Pirates a 2-0 cushion. Scott Kalamar (Bethlehem, Pa.) scored Seton Hall's third run with a sacrifice fly.
Seton Hall padded its lead with three runs in the top of the sixth inning, all with two outs. Three walks loaded the bases, and a fourth, by Falconi, forced in the Pirates' fourth run. Granite followed with a single through the left side, which scored Weigel to give Seton Hall a 5-0 lead. Then Kyle Grimm (Bergenfield, N.J.) scored the sixth and final SHU run on a wild pitch.
Meanwhile, Prosinski was rolling. The Preseason BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year kept the Waves off the scoreboard until he gave up two runs on three hits in the bottom of the seventh. But Pepperdine would get no closer.
Granite finished the day as the offensive star for Seton Hall. The centerfielder went 3-for-5 with a team-best two RBIs and one run scored. Papaccio was 2-for-4.
Mike Genovese extended his team-best hitting streak to seven games.
Seton Hall (1-9) will resume its three-game series with Pepperdine tomorrow. First Pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET.
