SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Jon Prosinski (Skillman, N.J.) threw his third complete game of the season as the Seton Hall baseball team defeated Georgetown, 9-2, in the first game of a weekend series on Friday. Prosinski gave up two runs over nine innings, while striking out five batters with just one walk. With the victory, he improves to 6-2 and lowers his ERA to 2.51. Reigning BIG EAST Player of the Week Zack Granite (Staten Island, N.Y.) had another big game for Seton Hall. The speedy junior went 2-for-4 with three runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base. He also reached twice on Georgetown errors. The Hoyas committed five errors on the day. Trailing 1-0, Seton Hall tied the game in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double by Scott Kalamar (Bethlehem, Pa.). Georgetown (21-14, 4-6) went ahead again, 2-1, in the top of the fourth on a leadoff double and RBI single that followed. But that would be the last of the Hoyas offense as the Pirates struck for eight unanswered runs. In the bottom of the fifth, Chris Selden (Allenhurst, N.J.) drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on Granite’s bunt single. Ryan Sullivan (Stony Point, N.Y.) reached on a throwing error by Georgetown’s pitcher, which allowed Selden to score the tying run. After Kalamar was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Giuseppe Papaccio (Nutley, N.J.) drove in two more runs with a single up the middle to give Seton Hall a 4-2 lead. Mike Genovese (Livingston, N.J.) sacrifice bunted two runners into scoring position, and Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.) was intentionally walked to load the bases again with one out. Zack Weigel (Oak Park, Ill.) flew out to center field, but it was deep enough to score Kalamar with the Pirates’ fifth run. In the bottom of the sixth, Kalamar’s second hit of the day scored Granite to give the Pirates a 6-2 lead. With two outs, Genovese doubled down the right field line to score Kalamar and extend the Seton Hall lead to 7-2. The Pirates (20-15, 6-4) tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the seventh and rolled to the 9-2 victory. Four Pirates had two hits in a 12-hit offensive barrage. It’s the ninth time in the last 11 games that Seton Hall has collected at least 10 hits. In that period, the Pirates have raised their team batting average 25 points to .289. Seton Hall will resume its three-game series with Georgetown on Saturday at Owen T. Carroll Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
