WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Junior Josh Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J.) pitched seven innings of one-run baseball and senior Giuseppe Papaccio (Nutley, N.J.) belted his second home run of the season as Seton Hall upended Monmouth, 10-1, in West Long Branch on Tuesday. With the victory, Prevost improves to 3-2 on the season and lowers his ERA to 2.92. Papaccio went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs as a result of a three-run home run. He also recorded his BIG EAST-leading 18 double of the season. Freshman Zack Weigel (Oak Park, Ill.) reached base five times on Tuesday, going 1-for-1 with two runs scored and four walks. Two days after being shut out by Georgetown, the Pirates offense scored early and often at Monmouth. With one out in the top of the first inning, Papaccio drilled his three-run homer to give Seton Hall an early 3-0 lead. In the top of the second, the Pirates exploded for four more runs. With one out, Zack Granite (Staten Island, N.Y.) reached on a fielding error by the Hawks’ second baseman. After Granite stole second, Weigel walked and Scott Kalamar (Bethlehem, Pa.) drove in the Pirates’ fourth run with an RBI single to right field. With two outs, Mike Genovese (Livingston, N.J.) walked to load the bases and Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.) followed with a walk of his own to force in the game’s fifth run. Junior Chris Selden (Allenhurst, N.J.) singled to right centerfield to drive in two more Pirates’ runs and extend their lead to a commanding 7-0. Weigel delivered an RBI single to left field in the top of the third inning to score Granite with the Pirates’ eighth run, and the rout was on. Genovese’s 14-game hit streak game to an end, but the senior captain drew a pair of walks and scored a run. Pitchers Connor Delepine (Middletown, N.J.) and Conor Krauss (Randolph, N.J.) came on in relief of Prevost and worked the final two scoreless innings to preserve the victory. Seton Hall has not committed an error in their last eight games. The Pirates currently lead the BIG EAST in fewest errors and fielding percentage. Seton Hall will return to action tomorrow (Wednesday) when it returns to Owen T. Carroll Field to host Lehigh. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET.
