CINCINNATI, OHIO – Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.) and Giuseppe Papaccio (Nutley, N.J.) both had four hits as the Seton Hall baseball team completed a three-game sweep at Cincinnati with a rain-shortened 14-4 win on Sunday. The game was called after six innings due to heavy rainfall in the Cincinnati area. The victory is the Pirates’ ninth straight and 13th in their last 14 games. The series sweep is the second straight for Seton Hall and the sixth straight weekend series win. The win improves the Pirates’ record to 30-16 overall and 13-5 in BIG EAST Conference games. It’s the third straight season that Seton Hall has reached the 30-win plateau. Annunziata went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, four RBIs and his team-leading sixth home run of the season. Papaccio finished 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. The Pirates’ shortstop drove in a team-best 11 RBIs in the Cincinnati series. Scott Kalamar (Bethlehem, Pa.) followed with a double down the left field line, advancing Weigel to third. Papaccio scored both Pirates with his BIG EAST-leading 21st double of the season to give Seton Hall a 2-0 lead. After Mike Genovese (Livingston, N.J.) grounded out, Annunziata singled to left to score Papaccio with the Pirates’ third run of the inning. In the top of the second, Dillon Hamlin (Colts Neck, N.J.) struck out swinging, but reached first on a wild pitch. Chris Selden (Allenhurst, N.J.) doubled to left center, scoring Hamlin from first to give Seton Hall a 4-0 lead. With one out, Weigel singled up the middle to score Selden and advanced to second on a throwing error. With two outs, Papaccio knocked in his third RBI in the first two innings with a single to right field, scoring Weigel, to extend Seton Hall’s lead to 6-0. Seton Hall took a commanding 10-0 lead with four more runs in the top of the third. Annunziata singled to lead off the inning and moved to second on a single by Tyler Boyd (Succasunna, N.J.). After Hamlin was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Selden doubled down the right field line to score two more runs. Zack Granite (Staten Island, N.Y.) grounded out to second, but Hamlin scored with the third run of the inning. Weigel flew out to right field, but Selden scored on the sacrifice and extended the Pirates’ lead to 10-0. Leading 11-2, Annunziata homered for a second straight game, a two-run round-tripper in the top of the sixth to give Seton Hall a 13-2 lead. Later in the inning, Hamlin singled home John Beaubien (Livingston, N.J.) to extend the Pirates’ lead to 14-2. Starting pitcher Anthony Elia (Flanders, N.J.) got the win to improve to 5-2 on the season. He pitched 5.2 innings, while giving up four earned runs and striking out two.
