SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Senior Zack Weigel (Oak Park, Ill.) doubled home Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.) with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Seton Hall baseball team defeated Saint Peter's, 5-4, on Wednesday for its 10th straight win.
Seton Hall (14-6) stole a season-high nine bases, including six by Derek Jenkins (Annandale, N.J.). Jenkins was also the offensive star for the Pirates, reaching base four times. He was 3-for-4 with a walk, an RBI, two runs scored and the aforementioned six steals.
The Pirates held a 3-0 lead, until Saint Peter's scored three times in the top of the fifth inning. The Peacocks took the lead the following inning on back-to-back doubles by Rob Moore and Mike Ionta.
Junior Mike Caputo (Morganville, N.J.) singled home Weigel with the tying run with one out in the bottom of the seventh.
Turning Point:
With the game tied at four in the bottom of the ninth, Poduslenko led off the inning with a walk. Weigel then delivered his double over the head of the Peacock left-fielder to score Poduslenko with the walk-off run.
