SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- Junior Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.) reached base a team-high three times as the Seton Hall baseball team downed LIU-Brooklyn, 6-1, on Saturday.
Poduslenko went 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk, an RBI and two stolen bases to lead the Pirates' offense.
In the second inning, Rob Dadona (Staten Island, N.Y.) delivered a two-out double to score Mikael-Ali Mogues (New York, N.Y.) with the game's first run. In the bottom of the third inning, the legs of Derek Jenkins (Annandale, N.J.) produced a run for the Pirates. Jenkins reached first base on a bunt base hit, advanced to second on a wild pitch, stole third base and scored on an errant throw by the Blackbird catcher.
Turning Point:
After LIU cut the Pirates' lead to 2-1, Seton Hall's offense erupted in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Hall sent all nine batters to the plate and scored three runs on three hits. The first three batters of the inning singled, the third of which, by Chris Chiaradio (Teaneck, N.J.), drove in the Pirates' third run. A balk forced in The Hall's fourth run, and Poduslenko walked with the bases loaded, which extended the lead to 5-1.
Inside the Numbers:
- Chiaradio drove in the Pirates' sixth and final run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning.
- Poduslenko, Dadona and Mike Alescio (Fair Haven, N.J.) all had two hits apiece for The Hall.
